How to Care for Your Sassy Rituals Candles for a Clean, Even Burn

Extend the life of your luxury self-care candles and enjoy a clean, even burn. This list of tips will help you care for all candles.

Allow the candle to burn upon first use until the entire surface turns to liquid wax (approx. 3-4 hours). This will help prolong the life of your candle. An uneven wax pool can drown the wick and cause lighting problems.

ALLOW TO POOL

The rule of thumb is to take 1 hour of burn time per vessel diameter. The Luxury Self-Care candles have a 3-inch diameter, which should be lit for 3-4 hours to reach a full melt pool initially.

BURNING

Max burn time 4 hours. Extinguish and allow the wax to solidify before relighting. Here’s a video on extinguishing a candle with a candle snuffer.

TRIM THE WICK

If you follow only one tip, let it be this one to ensure a clean, even burn each time. Trim cotton and wooden wicks to 1/4” before each burn to ensure clean burning and prevent soot.

Seriously, this is the most important tip we can give you….keep your wick trimmed. Trim the wooden wick before your first burn to 1/4 inch. Before your next burn, we suggest using candle wick trimmers to trim the wood wick to 1/4 inch again before re-lighting. If the wick is too long, it cannot absorb the wax and burn properly. Most problems with wooden wick candles can be solved by trimming the wick!

When caring for wooden wicks, remove all charred wood from previous burns. If you don’t, the wick may not stay lit long enough to fuel the flame, causing it to extinguish itself. Remove all charred wood to trim a wooden wick (we suggest using a wick trimmer).

REPURPOSE

Place your candle vessel in the freezer for 10 minutes to pop out the remaining wax and repurpose the vessel for decorative purposes. Learn about different ways to reimagine your vessels on our blog.
